^ Walk some Dogs at BARC

Come volunteer and walk some of these dogs you see up for adoption.

They all need to be socialized by different people and potentially find new owners.

dogwalking hours: Weekdays - Monday to Friday - 9am to 12:30pm
5pm to 7:30pm
Weekends - Saturday and Sunday - 9am to 1 pm

-- You will be provided a walking map of where to properly walk to avoid a lot of foot traffic, that can freak out some of the dogs. Please obey them.

-- New volunteers need to sign a volunteer form.

-- Please wear proper footwear (sneakers preferable, no heels or flipflops please)

^^Toughest Cat who lives in Metropolitan Avenue

This is the toughest cat I have ever met, He lives in Metropolitan Avenue, right off Berry Street, infront of the homemade garden made out of truck tires on the sidewalk. He belongs to the lady that made the garden. Some days, this cat will jump down on his ledge or the doorway, and harass some of my dogs by swiping a claw at them, sometimes he even hides behind the plants and suckerpaws my dogs. I have to always keep my eyes open for him when I come to this corner, because some of my dogs would kill a cat.

[Sandy Girl and Hennessy on their first playdate. Sandy Girl exhibits aggression to other dogs, Hennessy can be aggressive as well to other dogs, only if they start the action. She has been crucial in helping me diffuse aggressive issues with some of the other BARC dogs. The first picture shows how onguard Sandy is. A little positive reinforcement and calm introductions makes for better playdate]

Sasha, the senior male poodle mix, who has been at BARC for a couple months now, just left for his new home!!

**Lolly finds a home!!

Lolly came to BARC in August as a 10-12 years old Pekingese previously thrown in the street w/ eye infections and severe kennel cough, add a case of the heart-broken there too.

And now, She's HOME!!!

Lolly, now known as Lolita, came for a visit to BARC, with her owner, Gabriella on 20th of October. She is doing wonderful, and loves her new home. Also, word is, they are looking for another dog to keep her company.

**Interested in Adopting a DOG?

**Interested adopters should visit the shelter. There are more dogs available than our Web listings indicate. We advise people to come and walk some of our dogs and play with our cats to get a better idea of which animal would be best for them. We are open for adoption, Tuesday through Saturday, 12pm - 5pm. Please come at least 2 hours BEFORE closing.

Dogwalking hours are: Monday to Friday - mornings:9am to 12:30pm and 5pm to 7:30pm. Saturday and Sunday: 9am to 1pm.
Cat loft is open from Tuesday-Saturday from 12pm - 5pm

We require an adoption fee of $150. This covers, in part, the extensive medical care all of our pets receive before adoption, including:

* examination and treatment by a veterinarian
* spaying or neutering
* current vaccinations against distemper, kennel cough (dogs) and rabies (if the pet is old enough)
* testing for feline leukemia and feline AIDS or heartworm (dogs)
* deworming, and
* microchipping (dogs)

All adopters are required to complete and sign BARC's adoption agreement.
